#PubCampWest project pitches: Integrating Online

Another topic discussed at last weekend’s PCW was how to bring online and broadcast content departments closer together at public media organizations. Participants emphasized the need for organizations to stop thinking about online content as “web extras” which are not as important as broadcast content.

#PubCampWest project pitches: Election 2012

PubCampWest was a two-day event. On the first day, conference attendees met in small groups in an effort to create ideas for collaborative projects in three areas: reaching the whole community, integrating online and covering the 2012 election. The following day members of each small group pitched their project ideas to the entire conference.

This week we’ll be posting audio and photos from those pitches. First up: ideas for covering the election.

Below are links to images of the pages that contain the ideas discussed - they’re links instead of embedded photos so you can get a closer look at what’s written. (I apologize if they’re a bit blurry; they were shot with my iPhone.)

Election ideas one

Election ideas two

Election idea: the station as a hub of voter information

Election idea: civic education

Election idea: a collaborative effort for local fact-checking

And here is audio of the discussion about the election ideas, taken from the conference live stream.

Did you miss PubCampWest this weekend? Here’s unedited video of Sunday’s final session, in which participants pitched project ideas and discussed the future of public media. Pop some popcorn, kick back and enjoy - it’s about two hours and 30 minutes long.

We’ll post more video and photos from the conference in the coming days.

PubCampWest is a collaboration of KPCC, Southern California Public Radio, PBS SoCal and KQED.

PublicMediaCamp, or PubCamp for short, is a nationwide series of gatherings focused on forging greater collaboration between public media organizations and their communities. Inspired by unconferences such as Foocamp and Barcamp, PubCamps are informal opportunities for techies and community media makers to get together with NPR and PBS staff and develop projects together.
